Narendra Modi Stadium Pitch Report: The 17th edition of Tata Indian Premier League is going on its full fledge speed. We have already witnessed some top-class performances, right from the first match that was played on 22nd March 2024 between defending champions RCB and 5 times winner one of the most iconic franchises of Indian Premier League Chennai Super Kings the game was played on Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat.
For this inaugural game, the pitch has played the same throughout the game and supported both batter and blowers. Chennai Super Kings set up a target of 179 during their inning they lost 7 wickets, 4 of those wickets were picked by spinners and the rest 3 bagged by medium-fast bowlers. The score was decent enough if we see the stats of previous IPL games, so we can say that this pitch offers good batting and some help for bowlers too. We will discuss the pitch condition in detail in this blog.
Narendra Modi Stadium Pitch Report
Narendra Modi Stadium, which is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat state. The special thing about this stadium is that it is the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a sitting capacity of over 1,30,000 people in the stadium. If we look at the history of this stadium this system was originally built in 1982 earlier this cricket stadium used to be called Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium famously also known as Motera cricket stadium. Before the redesigning of this stadium, it originally was not as big as it is today, at that time around 49,000 spectators could sit in the stadium and enjoy the match.
The stadium has been reconstructed twice, first in the year 2006 when its capacity was increased to 54,000. But its final reconstruction was done in 2015 under the leadership of the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and now it is known as the largest cricket stadium in the world, with over 1,32,000 people sitting in the stadium. Narendra Modi Stadium IPL records and history
The pitch is known to provide little help to both spinners and medium-pace bowlers. Due to the huge dimension of the ground, it is sometimes difficult to go aerial in this ground because what can be a six in other grounds can be a catch at the boundary in this ground. The surface is dry as expected, so if the batter settles in, he is expected to play some good shots.
In this season of Tata Indian Premier League, the inaugural match was played on this ground between two giants one was defending champions and local heroes Gujarat Titans led by flamboyant Hardik Pandya whereas the opposing team was 4-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings which was led by evergreen Mr Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In this match, Chennai Super Kings batted first and scored 178 for 7 in their 20 overs quota with a brilliant batting performance by opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, but Gujarat Titans successfully overcame the bowling attack and chased the total in 19.2 overs.
We were talking about this match so we would be able to better judge the pitch of the stadium. According to previous games, the pitch does provide some assistance to bowlers. Mohammed Shami of Gujarat Titans was brilliant with the new ball and got the wicket of Devon Conway in his opening spell. There was little movement off the ground for seam bowlers. However, spinners join the party and can take 4 wickets in the middle. The spin side of Gujarat Titans is very strong and they have world-class bowlers like Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph. However, it was not an easy chase for the home team also but they managed to finish the game with 4 balls left in the match.
We can say that on this pitch 175-180 can be a fighting total if you have a decent bowling attack. The pitch will remain the same throughout the game and there was not much deterioration. Gujarat Titans are a very good side, and every player performed well in each department, so it can be very difficult for the visiting team to beat the Gujarat Titans in their home ground, especially with the performance that they gave in the first match.
Narendra Modi Stadium Toss prediction
The stadium has many pitches that can be used for a game. Some of them are made from red soil, and some are black. Though technically, black soil pitches offer good bouncy wickets, after the first match, which was conducted on 31st March, we could see a nice bounce and a little bit of seam movement. Like the famous stats of the Indian Premier Leagues most of the matches are won by the team who is chasing the target, it is considered a safe approach to pace up the inning according to the target.
